Schreiben von Filmmusik impliziert für mich, dass ich mit einigen
grundsätzlichen Überlegungen anfange. Als erstes muss ein Bewusstsein für
die Epoche, den Stil und das kulturelle Milieu erlangt werden, in welchem
der Film konzipiert und realisiert wurde. Dies bedingt eine Konfrontation
der musikalischen Sprachen, die untereinander sehr unterschiedlich sind. Es
sind die «Grundsprachen», welche die ersten 30 Jahre des vergangenen
Jahrhunderts gekennzeichnet haben. In dieser Periode ist alles geschehen:
von der endgültigen Verwirklichung des spätromantischen Stils bis zur
Entwicklung von vielen Bewegungen, die wir heute als Avantgarde definieren
(Zwölftonmusik, Expressionismus, Impressionismus, Futurismus, Dada, etc.),
vom Anbruch des Jazz bis zur Anerkennung der Liedform. Es ist auch so, dass
sich das Kino häufig auf vorhergehenden Epochen oder an geografisch
aussereuropäischen Ländern bezieht; dies verpflichtet den Musiker dazu,
virtuell eine reiche musikalische Welt zu erforschen. Diese musikalischen
Referenzen werden natürlich gefiltert und wieder zusammengesetzt, geprägt
durch Erfahrungen, welche von den Vorbildern weit entfernt sein können,
sowie von solchen, die meinem persönlichen Geschmack und meinen Neigungen
entsprechen. Die Hauptentscheidungen, welche ich vor Beginn einer
Komposition fälle, sind die Charakterisierung der einzelnen Szenen und die
Wahl des Rhythmus, der sie begleiten wird. Der richtige Taktschlag und die
richtige Spannung erlauben der Musik in einer wechselhaften Beziehung mit
den Bildern zu stehen. Sie müssen auch der dramaturgischen Entwicklung des
Films entsprechen und dennoch eine gewisse Autonomie der Musik gewähren. </span></font></span><br>
